Watanabe's Note <1>― Thoughts on Decorating the Obi―
“Enjoying Obi in Picture Frames” This hobby is quite enjoyable, and the pleasure is completely different between simply viewing framed obi and actually displaying your own.
Since I tend to prefer relatively design-focused obi, I started decorating with lighter, more art-oriented ones rather than heavier, more substantial ones.
I think this frame can accommodate any type of obi—whether it's a heavy, substantial style or a lighter, design-focused one. Seeing the various expressions of a single obi, from the joy of wearing it to the joy of displaying it, has been a new discovery for me.
Enjoyable both wall-mounted and floor-standing
Watanabe's Note <2> Before / After ― The Change Before and After Displaying ―
I used to think, “Framing something feels like too much of a hurdle for me.”
But when I actually tried putting an obi in a frame, it was surprisingly easy.
I realized there's no hurdle to displaying things at all. And above all, framing and displaying obi is incredibly fun. I find myself wanting to display more and more.
I also discovered I can enjoy both wall-hanging and flat-lay displays. I appreciate the natural comfort of flat-lay and the satisfying fit of wall-hanging. The act of displaying itself feels like a time to reconnect with the obi.
The joy of displaying one's own obi
Watanabe's Note <3> Both Western-style and Japanese-style rooms, just like me.
The characteristics of each frame color (white/black) were described as follows: “White blends gently and naturally into Western-style rooms,” and “Black creates a sharp impression, easily matching both Western and Japanese-style rooms.”
I chose the black frame this time because I wanted to try displaying it in a Japanese-style room too, and its compatibility with my obi and original obi designs exceeded my expectations. I heard the inspiration for launching this frame series came from the idea of “wanting to display my favorite obi,” and perhaps because of that, the frame's design is completely unobtrusive and simple.
It feels comfortable displaying any obi. I plan to continue displaying my own obi in this frame and enjoy it in my own way.
